Move, bend, and lift again without the constant fear of your back “going out.”

Lower back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide. Almost everyone will experience it at some point, yet traditional healthcare continues to mismanage it. The standard pipeline for back pain is frustratingly predictable: take muscle relaxers, rest, do some generic stretches, and if that fails, endure rounds of cortisone injections before eventually being pushed toward a spinal fusion surgery.
At Sigma Q Clinic, we refuse to treat your spine with a generic approach. The lower back and pelvis form the structural core of your Movement System. When it hurts, it is almost always because the joints above or below it have stopped doing their job. By utilizing 3D motion capture and advanced mechanical decompression, we identify the exact directional forces crushing your spine. We restore your structural foundation natively, getting you back to weightlifting, running, and living without a reliance on painkillers or the threat of the operating room.
The back is the victim: The lumbar spine is designed for stability. If your hips are tight or your mid-back is stiff, your lower back is forced to compensate by bending and twisting until it eventually fails.
Stop the generic stretches: Stretching your back by pulling your knees to your chest might feel good temporarily, but if you have a bulging disc, you are actively making the injury worse. Diagnosis dictates mechanics.
Surgery is rarely the only option: Most back pain is mechanical, meaning it can be fixed mechanically. We utilize specialized Flexion-Distraction and targeted Neurotherapy to decompress the spine without a scalpel.
To fix chronic back pain, we have to look at the entire kinetic chain.
Your lumbar spine (lower back) sits directly between your thoracic spine (mid-back) and your pelvis/hips. The mid-back and hips are designed to be highly mobile, rotating and bending to let you walk, swing a club, or reach for an object. The lower back, however, is designed to be a stable anchor.
If you sit at a desk all day, your hips become locked in flexion and your mid-back becomes rounded and stiff. Now, when you try to bend over to tie your shoe or swing a golf club, those mobile joints cannot move. Your brain forces your stable lower back to do the bending and twisting instead. This unnatural mechanical overload is what shears the spinal discs, strains the muscles, and pinches the nerves. We don’t just treat the pain in your back; we fix the mobility in your hips and mid-back so your spine stops taking the punishment.
Because the lower back houses the nerves that control your entire lower body, a spinal issue can present in many different ways. You should seek a clinical evaluation if you experience:
Not all back pain is the same. Finding the exact tissue that is failing allows us to apply the precise mechanical solution. Explore our dedicated condition pages to learn more about how we treat specific diagnoses:

When the shock-absorbing discs between your vertebrae tear or bulge outward, putting severe pressure on the spinal cord

The hallmark symptom of a pinched nerve root in the lower back, causing intense burning pain and weakness down the leg

An age-related narrowing of the spinal canal that chokes the nerves, causing heavy, cramping legs that only find relief when you lean forward on a shopping cart

Pain originating precisely over the "dimples" of the lower back, caused by the pelvic joints becoming either locked or hypermobile
We do not rely on painkillers. We utilize a comprehensive, three-pillar system as part of the Sigma Q Movement System to physically change the mechanics of your spine:
If you have failed traditional PT for back pain, you are not alone. Standard clinics often give every back pain patient the exact same printout of generic exercises: “bird-dogs,” “cat-cows,” and hamstring stretches.
The spine is highly directional. If you have a herniated disc, bending forward (flexion) actively forces the disc further onto the nerve. If your physical therapist tells you to pull your knees to your chest, they are making your injury worse. If you have spinal stenosis, bending backward (extension) crushes the nerve.
At Sigma Q Clinic, we use the McKenzie concepts and Kinotek 3D Movement Analysis to find your specific “directional preference.” Every exercise we prescribe is bio-mechanically customized to centralize your pain and decompress your specific injury.
Located centrally in Chicago, Sigma Q Clinic serves patients across Lincoln Park, Lakeview, and the surrounding communities.
